"Hello boys and girls. Today we are going to learn a big new word. The word is murmuration. Isn't it a long word children? Do you know what it means? While I know what it means, rather than me explain the word to you, let me show you an example of murmuration."
"Sir, you are fibbing. I bet you did not know what the word meant."
"Shut up brat and watch the video."
Hello Andrew:
ReplyDeleteMost impressive. We have similar, but smaller, murmurations over Brighton Pier, usually in the late autumn.
Wow!
DeleteJayLa, we have starlings here, but they are a pest. The state of Western Australia managed to prevent them from colonising in numbers. I see the BBC gives a guide as to where to see them in winter.
DeleteFC, you had not heard of the word or seen a murmuration?
DeleteNow that's what I call precision flying! What an amazing sight. I'm assuming they're hunting for insects?
ReplyDeleteI don't know Wombat, but it is believed that they do eat on the wing when are flying like that.
DeleteTerrific, and I didn't know what the word meant, sir. I think the film would have been even better if they had just shut up and filmed it and left off the music.
ReplyDeleteMarcellous, there are other recordings or murmurations around, but that was the best I came across. I didn't mind the music, but really, nothing needed to be added to the spectacle.
DeleteA murmuration of starlings? I thought it was a murmuration of swallows, but maybe it is both. Maybe other birds are included. I knew what the word meant, I've read it before somewhere and it buried itself in my subconscious.
ReplyDeleteRiver while researching, I found a web site with a list of all the collective nouns for animals, but I can't remember about swallows and I did not bookmark the site.
DeleteWow! Gorgeous clip and I've learned me a new word.
ReplyDeleteKath, so not starling performances in Geneva. I watched it a few times now and it is quite fabulous.
DeleteAbsabloominfabulous! Gosh how cool would it be to see this for real. Merci beaucoup for sharing Andrew.
ReplyDeleteGrace, how come neither you nor have seen this? What is wrong with Attenborough?
DeleteExactly Andrew, he's slipping haha!
