Back in my youf, we had proper music and literature, like the song Yellow River and the accompanying tome of the same name by I. P. Daley.
Apparently the song is about the American Civil War. Well, some forty plus years later, I have learnt that. I suppose I heard the Australian version by a group called Jigsaw but I find the original English recording by Christie much better. Normally I feel a frisson of arousal when I look at old pop groups on You Tube, but I am not for neither Jigsaw or Christie. They are all quite plain, only saved slightly by their voluminous hair.
The song may well have been called Yellow River, but it features the group Christie upon a barge in the Thames River. I would expect the very grey clip was never used by the London Tourist Bureau. While I know the bridges, can anyone identify any of the buildings along the Thames, apart from the obvious Westminster?
Also, for the musically inclined, is there a key change in the song, or is it just a tempo change?
Wow never heard this version but I remember Elton John's - its a good song and many a joke about it in High school with a name like Yellow Riiver - we all thought we were so naughty - phrases such as "Yellow River" by I pee daily... that did the rounds...It reminded not the song but the time of Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime"

Unfortunately, which is slightly strange, we did not recognize any of the buildings other than the Houses of Parliament [of course] and think that, in the main, the shots were of the Thames westward and not continuous at all.
JayLa, parts did look like cargo wharves. Sadly no footage of the Oxo building or Battersea Power Station. Oh, heaps of flats at the power station have just been sold.

DeleteIt is quite difficult to identify the bridges but to me it looks as though the first one was Lambeth Bridge and then the next one, with someone walking across could have been Hammersmith, especially with the bend in the river. The moored boats are possibly the ones at Chelsea embankment. Then towards the end it looks as though they are near Richmond. To me it does not look like a continuos view of the river.

DeleteI thought Yellow River was by Axiom, I remember the song well, but not who sang it. Apparently many bands did.
